Yes, this is me Angela Thomson, who has worked on the S/S Norway, jazz, big band and blues cruises. Then I went over to the QE 2 for more similar magigal music cruises. Now as part of an international Consortium we stage our Annual Jazz Party At Sea with our old friends at Norwegian Cruise line. Also Jazz On The Seven Seas with our pals at Regent and look out for our new Big Band dancing cruise with Holland America Line.
Most people think I am on the high seas somewhere most weeks of the year but now you can keep up with me and our news via my blog. I look forward to hearing from you!

We met on the QE2 Panama Big Band Cruise with Ray Anthony. It´s so nice to see that you are still around staging music on ships. Do you ever have Latin musicians? Also how would I go about getting a job as a dance host on a ship?

Hey Xavier, so nice to hear from you and I hope you are well. Of course I remember you form the Big Band Cruise, I hope your feet are now fully mended.
We have DIVA, the all lady Big Band Orchestra on our 8th Annual Jazz Party At Sea, so why not come along and see if we can still cut a rug?
As for Latin musicians!!!….you should have come along to last year’s 7th AJPAS, “Rhythms of the Americas”, we had avery hybrid of American music. Anyone out there who was aboard, please write and tell Xavier what he missed.
As for the position of Dance Host on the ships, I can only advise you to Google “Dance Hosts on Ships”, a myriad come up. Or you can go to the cruise lines direct .com sites and navigate personnel to find their vacancies.
It’s so nice to hear from you, I really hope we bump into (not literally) each other again soon. I promise you my dance classes have paid off!

If you’re looking for latin jazz, you should have been on this cruise last year. It was fantastic and packed with latin musicians. Best of all, I found a fantastic “new” ragtime musician named Reggie Robinson. Check him out.
Can’t wait for this year’s cruise.

Hi Phil, now you are talking! I am so glad you enjoyed last year’s AJPAS, “Rhythms of the Americas”, my guess is that you were just one of our guests who were totally blown away by it. We had Latin, mainstream, African, there was something for everyone.
As for “Ragtime” Reginald Robinson, the boy is an absolute phenomenon who has already won the MacArthur award for genius. Genius he is, he is the new Scott Joplin of our day.
Thank’s Phil you reminded me of yet another highlight….. that boy is really going places and my guess is he will be going worldwide.

Hey Angela,
I just saw that you are doing a cruise in 2009 in conjunction with JAZZIZ Magazine. Is it true that you are going to have musicians that are both traditional and contemporary? That sounds fantastic. I’m sure I’ll find some new favorites.

You are perfectly correct Phil. We are very excited to be staging Jazziz Magazine’s 25th Birthday party, 15th November 2009. We already have a great line up of traditional and contemporary jazz artists, I wil be posting them on our site as soon as I possibly can. Keep watching ajpas.com Phil to see all our developments.

Well, it’s a year since I started this blog and I still await lots of messages from you.
I just got back from meetings in Florida. Why? The weather was wonderful, the sales were in abundance, food fantastic. I was just so happy in the sun.
Things are going well for our 9th Annual Jazz Party At Sea when we are hosting Jazziz Magazine’s 25th birthday celebrations from Miami around the Western Caribbean.
I just heard this morning that Amy Winehouse recording contractors have refused nearly all the songs she wrote whilst in St. Lucia as they were “too dark”. What is going on with that girl? She should come on our cruise to lift her spirits!

Hello Angela,
I just wanted to say thanks for bringing Grace Kelly on the 9th AJPAS. She was fantastic. I knew that she had played with Phil Woods in the past and that she must be great to play with a musician of his caliber. What I didn’t know was that she also sings. What a find. You guys are the best.
I’m so looking forward to seeing “Ragtime” Reggie again on next year’s cruise. With DIVA, the Heath Brothers and Feddy Cole how could I miss it?

Hey Phil,
Nice to hear from you and it was great sailing with you once again. I am so glad you loved our young saxophonist, Grace Kelly, she blew the whole ship away. Everyone asked how old she was, can you believe it just 17! Did you catch her at ‘Fathead’s Tribute’? She instigated Georgia, not a dry eye in the house. She has 5 CDs already and starts her world tour in February 2010. I will catch her at Ronnie Scott’s in London (UK). I thought Phil Woods played like a proud dad with her.
Anyway, we are getting all set for 2010, we are clebrating our 1st decade. I am so glad you are going to join us again - you haven’t missed a year yet. Already our line up is impressive and we still have 11 months to go. Eastern Caribbean 6 - 13 November, from Port Canaveral, I am so excited about it.
Always good to get feedback from you Phil. I send seasons greetings to you and yours.
